Yeah, sooooo, Justin had a good day!
When I got to the hospital this morning around 7:30, I could already tell Justin was feeling much better. The day shift nurse was there and he was only asking for Tylenol as pain meds. His eyes were bright, his skin was pink and rosy, and his spirit was alive.
Justin had lots of (hospital staff) visitors, but that’s what happens when they’re kicking you out! Physical therapy stopped by, made sure he could walk around, occupational therapy made sure he could dress himself and use the restroom solo, and nurse supreme was there to check off proper pain management. The surgeon came by mid-morning to take both drains out and gave us our first glimpse of the incision. According to the nurses it’s “beautiful,” but since the doc had shown me a photo from during the procedure, I found it downright impressive. He also gave us the green light for discharge. Woot-woot! Another high note, his hemoglobin was up to 9.3! We haven’t seen that since November!
Not that I don’t love the most expensive, all-inclusive hotel in town, but there’s just something about leaving the hospital … ahh, it’s that feeling of progress, the blessing of healing, the inscribing of a new chapter.
It’ll be an adjustment not having the medical bed and around-the-clock support, but I truly feel Justin is in a good place, both physically and mentally. We’ll work through the next couple of weeks like we always do, leaning on each other and being held up by all of you.
He’s snoozing hardcore right now. The snoring is insane, but I glow hearing him beside me. My love and my life, right here. Yay!
Blessings to you all, Christina
